Danilo ArriolaAcademically trained painter, Danilo Angeles Arriola, Jr., was born to a Pasigueño clan. Displaying a creative proficiency since childhood, he won competitions in and out of Pasig Catholic College. During these years, he came under the tutelage of Fernando Sena. After finishing an architectural course at The University of Santo Tomas, he lived in Manila, Singapore and Hong Kong as a designer and perspectivist. Refuge from work was found in painting workshops conducted by Singaporean Wee Shoo Leong, whose life moved him to return to his lifelong dream to be a painter.
His search for being led him to Florence, Italy - the seat of Renaissance Art. With his life savings, in 2004, he attended the yearlong Intensive Drawing Program at The Florence Academy of Art with school director Daniel Graves. Continuing on his second year or Intermediate Program in 2007, he obtained a full scholarship from Senator Jamby Madrigal, and grants from The Sharon Cuneta Foundation and from the Tan Yan Kee Foundation. Then in 2008, he proceeded into the Advance Painting Program, this time as a scholar of the academy. With financial difficulties and a frail health, he endured those trying times with his family and friends’ undying support. Having been taught uncontested truths, he is now an advocate of classical painting. Caravaggio, Bouguereau and Chardin are a few of his influences. Danilo paints from life, as traditional as his predecessors. He uses the sun as his source of light. He translates nature onto canvas by capturing a subject’s vitality and the tone of its surrounding atmosphere. He explores time-tested painting techniques, methods and materials. He is a Pasig Art Club member and maintains a studio in Pasig City. |
