Alfred MoralesAlfred Morales Jr.’s wealth of experiences never quenched the insatiable appetite for art in his bones from shining through. Living a very eventful and colorful life, the passion and talent that would sometimes lay dormant in his soul came alive with every opportunity it is given.
As a young boy his resolve for the arts was sure, he wanted to study visual arts. However certain situations placed him in circumstances that were not always so easy. After graduating from Rizal high school, his college days were unpredictable with life always getting in the way. First studying Dental Technologies in Centro Escolar University, then transferred soon to Slim Fashion Art School taking up Special Fine Arts then he enrolled again in De Ocampo Memorial College to finish his course, Dental Technologies. Always inclined to the arts, his pursuit was never ending, and it never stopped him from learning on his own and forging his own artistic identity. Throughout his life, its different chapters and highs and lows, his craft was the only thing that remained constant. In 1997, he was part of the Art Association of the Philippines. He continued to join contests as well when it was possible for him such as the Metrobank art contest where he was a semi-finalist, aside from that were other competitions that gave him various opportunities. One such example is winning the Juror’s Choice in the Mural Painting Competition on 100 years of Filipino Migration to Hawaii which was exhibited at the Philippine Embassy in the United States. In 2007, he also learned about the inheritance of art that ran through his blood. As the grandson of Professor Ambrosio Morales, who was the founder of Pasig Art Club, it was then that he joined the Pasig Art Club as well. Accompanying his infectious energy is the desire to be actively pursuing different things, never being too choosy his adventurous spirit leads him to many mediums. First starting with oil and then moving on to watercolor, he also experimented with sculptures. The subjects for his paintings vary, from human figures, mother and child to nudes and landscape; he manages to make something beautiful out of whatever that is available. This integration of his surroundings into his artwork is what makes him the artist that he is now: one who doesn’t make art from the world that is around him. |
