Nasser ZuluetaNasser Zulueta is a man who lived a thousand lives. A noble spirit with a fighting power to weather the obstacles that life has thrown him, he has proven that pure raw talent and determination can shine through whatever circumstance. At the very core, he is an artist whether his circumstance allows him to be so or not. His art doesn’t define him. His art is him.
As a young boy, he would follow the Liwayway covers, not knowing why he was so inspired by them. They became his training ground, and he was also taken with his father’s landscape designs. From this simple beginning his eyes were opened to the possibilities of aesthetics. As a high school student, his love for art won over the many consequences he would have to deal with when he would join art competitions, yet still he would pursue it taking home medals. At the time he was exploring watercolor and acrylic with subject of figures and realism. When he was a teenager, circumstances compelled him to become independent and self-supporting. Taking on many odd jobs to get by, he accepted commissioned works of portraits, still making everything a learning process for his circumstance. A twist of fate challenged him further because an accident that could have ended in a tragedy rendered his right hand almost unable to be used. Yet his resilience turned his situation around and he taught himself to paint with his left hand, still supporting himself during his recovery and still doing portraits. After some snags in his recovery that further tested his resolve, he was able to survive: Bruised, battered but breathing with a paintbrush in hand. Although now recovered from his accident, his right hand still experiences some limitations, yet these are things that he does not mind. In fact, he attributes his improvement by the drive to get better despite his physical boundaries by not considering them boundaries at all. True enough, with whatever physical freedom he has or does not have he can still paint better than most people who have full use of every limb in their body From many tribulations, now comes wealth of possibilities. Currently a sophomore in U.P. he is taking up Fine Arts., a shiftee from Architecture to Painting. He is also a candidate for exchange program and is enjoying consecutive openings that feature his works. At 27, he is also one of the youngest members of Pasig Art Club. His admission came about by synchronicity, in 2008 the club went out of town to Lipa, Batangas. At the time he was part of the Lipeno Youth Art Club and he came across the club that will soon be his family. Showing his determination to the club he even transferred his voters registration from Batangas to Pasig, making him officially a legitimate true blue pasigueno. Still learning from life, he is continously forming a clearer sense of self as an artist. Through the hardship of his many obstacles his fighting spirit pushed him through. Living a life no often lived by people of such a young age has given him a deeper emotional dimension in his works. His realism has taken on a new meaning as his reality is one that is as colorful as any work of art. |
