Lhen Perez - CruzatBearing the marks of a true artist, Lhen Perez-Cruzat has lived a life of love. As a mother, a wife, a daughter and a friend, her life reflects the artistry of humanity that is evident in her works. As the daughter of one of the original members of Pasig Art Cub, Juan Perez, it is no surprise that she would also find herself drawn to the visual arts field. Taking up Fine Arts in UST with a Major in painting, she aggressively pursued her craft after high school, learning portraits from her father and illustration under Hal Santiago.
Soon after, she embarked on her new role as a wife and mother. However even with the new responsibilities that this new chapter brings her; she never veered far from the world of arts. She studied Fashion Design and went on to set up a business which she has managed for the past 10 years. This position also helped her explore another aspect of her creativity. By a twist of fate, in 2002 in the Pasig City Museum, she met the other children of artists from the Pasig Art Club., Compelled by nostalgia for its glory days and knowing the wealth of talent that it held and promoted, they decided to continue the legacy of the club. Up until that time, Lhen had stopped painting but in that moment her inner artist was reborn, stronger and more determined than ever. Starting first with oil, she went back to her canvas. Mostly doing portraits and nudes, figures are her forte, focusing on the beauty of the human body. Lately, she has been experimenting with pastels; still most of her subjects are made with models. Her first exhibit was during the Pasig Art Club: Second Revival show, there was her official initiation to the visual arts community. Since then she became a full time artist, whilst still managing her business. In the process of studying the strokes and techniques of many great artists, she lists her father as her biggest influence and her children her biggest source of inspiration. Having such love towards each and every work, makes for pieces that capture the passion and genuineness that comes from her heart toward life, love and art. |
